Health Economics & Reimbursement Director

A Day in the Life:

  • Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Lead/manage a team of subject matter experts on health economics, policy and reimbursement within Germany, Switzerland and Austria.  
  • Influence the healthcare policy environment in Germany and Alpine through healthcare policy analysis and strategy, engagement with key opinion leaders, industry associations, professional societies, government organizations and political leaders, and maintenance of payer and influencer networks (including representing Medtronic at industry associations). 
  • Shape the reimbursement landscape by developing and implementing market access and reimbursement strategies and programs to obtain coverage, coding and payment from payer/providers. 
  • Provide market-access and reimbursement-related expertise to product development teams, marketing, sales, regulatory, clinical and business leaders.
  • Work with the HEPR Germany and Alpine teams to identify payer opportunities and issues and implement programs to resolve/decrease barriers to entry for the company’s products or therapies.
  • Align and collaborate with internal functions like Governmental Affairs, Clinical, Regulatory and Quality and the commercial teams  as well as external partners (payers, governments) to initiate and guide projects. 
  • Lead economic impact assessments for the product portfolio and innovative payment contracts (e.g. VBHC) 
  • Participate as an active member of the Germany and Alpine Leadership Teams and the regional HEPR Leadership Team, working in partnership across businesses, functions, and countries on broad strategic issues of importance to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria and the Western European Health Policy space. 
  • Create and improve reimbursement and health policy training and education programs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Periodic travel across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria to visit internal and external stakeholders.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of the German, Austrian and Swiss healthcare and insurance system and their specific financing structure
  • A developed and trusted network with the German, Austrian and Swiss health insurances, and health policy makers
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience working in market access, health insurance or in the area of funding, reimbursement and/or health economics application in healthcare environment and at least 5 years experience managing people and leading teams with clear vision, transparency, and enthusiasm
  • Passion to invest time in relationship-building, internally and externally.
  • A good track-record building a deeply connected and highly engaged team by fostering employee inclusion, enhancing teamwork and benefit from diverse skills and experience  
  • Excellent command of the German and English language; French is a plus
  • Master or PhD degree in (Health) Economics, Management, Medicine or Bioscience preferable 
  • Experience within a cross-cultural and/ or international environment is a preference
  • Strong networking skills to build lasting relationships between internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you have to be an excellent communicator, able to drive change by influence (internally as well as externally), and have strong managerial skills/experience. Ideal candidates will combine good problem-solving skills with a focus on execution and have a strong interest in the German, Swiss, and Austrian political and healthcare and reimbursement systems.
