Head of Global Market Access

Cambridge, MA / Bridgewater, NJ, US.

The Head of Global Market Access leads a team of 100+ employees and has leadership responsibility for the Specialty Care Global Market Access function including Global HEVA (Health Economics & Value Assessment) activities within the business unit. There are 5 core responsibilities expected from Head of Global Market Access, Specialty Care:

Ensure/Drive development of develop global integrated market access & payer strategies with strong understanding of payer drivers, anticipation of payer objections, and deep knowledge of market access stakeholders for Specialty Care products

  • Develop and implement Global Market Access strategies, plans and tactics for Specialty Care products and solutions throughout the lifecycle to ensure optimization of the recommendations, prices and access in line with the GBU business priorities and strategic portfolio/brand ambitions.
  • Ensure that commercial decisions taken in relation to prices, recommendations, and funding include Market Access global perspectives. In this capacity, the Head is part of the approval flow for all price decisions and tenders and oversees the submissions for price, recommendation, and funding in key countries. For the strategic products, this role validates and gives go/no go for submission of countries’ Market Access dossiers.
  • Lead evidence generation related to Market Access and ensure alignment with the business priorities, needs of key markets, and the Global Brand Strategy
  • Lead GMAP teams in the development of early Market Access potential for the new product portfolio to inform internal decision-making of portfolio entry, portfolio prioritization, Target Product Profile and the Target Value Proposition.
  • Develop and maintain at expert level, an understanding of relevant recommendations, pricing and funding criteria used by payers in key markets to make informed decisions about Market Access strategies, plans and tactics. Actively scans the environment for emerging trends and identifies future risk.

Steer Health Economic and Value Assessment analysis for the GBU

  • Responsible for the health economic and broader value assessment of the different products and solutions to drive evidence-led decision-making from recommending bodies to optimize positioning of Specialty Care products value proposition with payers and influencers.
  • Promote a culture of innovation in HEVA, including a clear view on data sourcing strategy through to best in class methodology adoption and development including technology and AI.
  • Build Sanofi reputation externally, with payers and influencers, as a best in class HEVA practitioners.

Be the strategic voice of Market Access SPC internally and externally

  • Represent GMAx SPC in key decision-making forums: Specialty Care Leadership Team, TARC (Therapeutic Area Committee), PSC (Product Strategy Committee), Specialty Care Strategy Days, Tender Board, Restricted Tender Management Board, ad hoc IDCC (Integrated Development & Commercial Council)
  • Actively monitors, and identifies and executes risk mitigation strategies, for corporate risk related to Market Access.
  • Represent GMax SPC with key partners (e.g. Regeneron, Sobi, etc.), being fully included in negotiation and progress of these critical partnerships.
  • Represent the Sanofi Specialty Care at key external bodies such as BCG Market Access Roundtable; IQVIA forums, (PhRMA), ICER in US).

Ensure cross functional interaction and collaborate transversally

  • This role leads the function to work transversally across the company to ensure alignment with the relevant functions (e.g. Franchises, Global Public Affairs, Global Communication, Global Medical Affairs, GMs in Key and International markets, R&D) and that trade-offs can be made from the point of view of the company.
  • This role will be an important partner with the newly formed GTMC organization and specifically the Head of Global Market Access Excellence, which leads market access centers of excellence including global pricing.  This role will reinforce the new operating model and be a resource to the GTMC team.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Global Market Access Excellence and the Heads of Market Access for Vaccines and GenMed, this role co-leads the Sanofi Global Market Access community.  In this capacity, the Head of Global Market Access, Specialty Care collaborates transversally across the Global Business Units and the regions. This responsibility includes animation of the global Sanofi Market Access community, global strategic projects, sharing best practices, developing and enhancing appropriate capabilities and competencies.

Ensure strong management/people development requirements

  • Ensure clear and timely communication, roll-out, and training of the strategies, tools, and tactics to the affiliates.
  • Foster a culture of enterprise leadership within the function and work with leaders and GTMC to ensure strong leadership and technical capabilities in the function.
  • Manage a team of leaders with strong emphasis on people development for the full GMax team.

About you

  • Education: Master level degree e.g. in health economics, pharmacology or similar preferably complemented with an MBA
  • Languages: English fluent required

Technical skills

  • Knowledge of existing and emerging market access stakeholders and influencers for Specialty Care/pharmaceutical products (e.g. recommendation decision-making and process, tenders, public or third-party financing) and understanding of the evolutions/implications for business
  • Understanding of payer value drivers and anticipation of payer objections
  • Experience in development of global integrated market access & payer strategies and plans, aimed at delivering the product differentiation most relevant to payers
  • Track record of delivering payer relevant tools with positive measurable impact on the franchise/brand financials
  • Experience of health economics analysis and how the value proposition is delivered to key recommending bodies and payers

Leadership skills

  • Strong strategic and leadership skills as well as analytical skills to translate clinical information and messages into payer access strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a cross-functional team, across functions, countries and cultures
  • Senior leadership experience and at the executive level
