Hello my fellow health economists,
As we are closing for Christmas, I wanted to look back on 2024, and share some thoughts about our sector.
As I run the specialised job board for health economists, it gives me a pretty good view of what’s happening in our job market.
In general there are still plenty of opportunities for health economists, and especially for our experienced colleagues.
For the European Health Economics, it’s been a busy and rewarding year. In 2024, we posted over 1,500 health economics jobs, and the number of visitors to the job board doubled this year! Together, you visited the site over 41,000 times and viewed the job ads more than 214,000 times.
Thank you for all these visits. I think it’s fair to say there aren’t many places where you’ll find such a steady and focused stream of health economics jobs.
That being said, we’ve seen some changes too. Some companies have laid off their health economics teams — something that was almost unthinkable just a few years ago. To me, this shows that the health economics sector, which grew rapidly for a decade, is now maturing and even reaching saturation.
This year, we also started focusing on finding projects for freelance health economists. I’m happy to say that this is picking up, and that we are looking forward to growing this service in 2025. So, next time you need a freelancer for a project or maternity leave cover, keep us in mind.
Thank you for using, and being part of, European Health Economics.
I wish you Merry Christmas, and a happy and successful New Year!
Best regards,
Jari
