Associate Director – Market Access

The Associate Director Market Access (Assoc. Dir. MAx) is a senior and important strategic function within the Nordic region. The role is highly visible in the organization with regular exposure to Global HQ and above regional functions, e.g. Global Value & Access and others. Further to this, the role is matrix oriented and has a core responsibility for MAx in a specific country, as well as one or more therapy areas across the Nordics. The Assoc. Dir. MAx reports into the Sr Dir. MAx Nordics, is a member of the MAx leadership team, and a delegated as required member of the External Affairs Committee (Nordic MAx, GA and PA functions).

Country specific role

The Assoc. Dir. MAx will be responsible for a broad range of MAx related matters in the specific country: The role includes work tasks such as developing the country specific MAx strategy and value demonstration, owning the submission process and content for reimbursement dossiers, owning the country specific strategic part of pricing and health economic analysis. All work will be done in close collaboration with the rest of the Nordic MAx team and other regional and global functions cross-functionally, in particular this includes working closely with the Governmental Affairs and Public Affairs functions. The Assoc. Dir. MAx will also interact with external stakeholders as necessary.

Together with the Nordic Pricing & Tender Lead the Assoc. Dir. MAx will oversee the operational part of tenders and pricing. 

Therapy Area role

The Assoc. Dir. MAx will be responsible for a broad range of MAx related matters in the four Nordic countries for (a) specific therapy area(s): The role includes work tasks such as owning the Nordic therapy area MAx budget, developing the therapy specific MAx strategy and value demonstration, participating and advising in reimbursement dossiers, owning the strategic part of pricing and health economic analysis for the specific therapy area(s). All work will be done in close collaboration with the rest of the Nordic MAx team and other regional and global functions cross-functionally.

The job content and responsibility may be summarized as: 
•    Work broadly to secure and maintain market access for Gilead’s product portfolio in the specific country
•    Perform tasks related to market access across therapeutic areas, in particular:
o    Market Access strategy for the specific country and therapy area(s) responsibility, the most vital part of the position
o    Reimbursement dossier preparation, including but not limited to contracting with relevant consultants and vendors, model adaptation, landscape analyses etc.
o    Value story and value tool development
o    Cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis
o    Pricing and tender strategy for the specific country and therapy area(s)
o    Oversee pricing and tender operational aspects
o    Stakeholder management, company internal as well as external
o    Study design and data collection
o    Health care policy
•    Be the Market Access Lead in relevant Nordic cross-functional therapy area core teams, brand teams, and cross-functional in-field teams where needed
•    Work closely with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Legal, Government Affairs, Public Affairs and other Danish and Nordic colleagues, external consultants, Global Value & Access, other HQ functions as well as other Gilead affiliates

The role includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

MA strategy and payer & stakeholder management
•    Helps develop and implement the Nordic Market Access, Reimbursement and Tender strategy across therapeutic areas
•    Develops and manages reimbursement dossiers and submission processes for the specific national payer
•    Manages and develops payer and other key stakeholder relations
•    Develops and implements tactics to drive formulary placement where applicable
•    Develops and implements of stakeholder group advocacy as a tactic to drive pricing and reimbursement success
•    Follows health care policy development across the Nordic region and prepares and presents Gilead Nordic policy projects
•    Works together with other functions to shape market access conditions for existing products and pipeline assets.

Development and communication of market access tool and materials 
•    Develops and communicates value stories, value messages and value tools to external and internal audiences
•    Develops or adapt (often together with external vendors) cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, and other health economic models
•    Communicates cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses to national and/or regional/local stakeholders
•    Understands and utilizes medical and epidemiological information to prepare supportive documents for negotiations with various stakeholders in the reimbursement, pricing and budget processes
•    Assesses and occasionally plans outcomes research and health economics studies and data collections projects.

Operational tender and pricing in close collaboration with Nordic Tender & Pricing Lead:
•    Oversee tender scenario planning, return on investment analysis, preparing and recommending price and discount levels internally 
•    Oversee tender horizon scanning, submissions and contracts 
•    Support development local pricing proposals consistent with the global pricing strategy and manages price notifications, reference pricing procedures, et cetera
•    Manage and develop relations with tender and pricing authorities

Formal qualifications

Ideally, the successful applicant should have:
•    A Master of Science or PhD degree in Economics, Health Economics, Business studies, Medicine, Pharmacy, or another relevant background
•    Excellent understanding of the Danish pricing and reimbursement system
•    Basic understanding of the reimbursement systems in the other Nordic countries
•    Robust experience from market access and/or health economics work in the pharma industry
•    Solid understanding of MA processes and the objectives and strategies of payers and other stakeholders in Denmark
•    An analytical mindset
•    Strong quantitative analysis skills
•    Previous experience working with any of Gileads therapeutic areas (HIV, Hepatitis, Oncology/Cell Therapy) is a plus  
•    Fluent in written and spoken Danish and high proficiency in English
•    Competent experience of using Microsoft Office products is required

The Associate Director Market Access (MAx) role is a strategically and operationally important role that will help secure patient access to Gilead’s life-saving medicines.
