Why You Can’t Find Your Next Health Economics Role on General Job Boards

Cerca “health economist” on LinkedIn or Indeed and the results look promising at first glance. Dozens of listings. Plenty of activity. But start reading and the picture changes quickly.

Half the results are not health economics roles. They are health advisors, public health consultants or general economist positions with “health” or “economics” loosely attached to the job description. Health economics sits across both and gets polluted by both.

Recruiters may tag roles broadly to pull in more applicants, and general platforms categorise by wide fields like “healthcare” or “economics” to provide more roles in the endless scroll.

So you scroll, filter, dismiss, and repeat. On a good day you find a handful of relevant roles buried in pages of noise.

The real cost is not just wasted time

The bigger problem are the job opportunities that you never see at all.

Many genuine health economics roles are posted only on company career pages that you would need to check individually across dozens of pharma companies, consultancies and MedTech firms. Some are listed briefly and filled before you get around to checking.

Other roles have titles you might not search for, like HEOR, HTA or RWE, or use local-language job titles in Germany, France, Spain or the Nordics.

If you rely on general job boards as your main source, you are working with an incomplete picture of the job market. You see the most visibly posted roles, which tend to be the same ones every other candidate sees too. The rest, often the more interesting, senior or niche positions, sit elsewhere.

What a specialist listing looks like

EuropeanHealthEconomics.com is a job board built exclusively for health economics to solve both problems: it removes the noise and closes the visibility gap. Every role on the job board is health economics related. The selection of titles and role types reflects how the health economics profession actually works, not how a general platform happens to categorise it.

On EuropeanHealthEconomics.com, there are currently 73 Free / 357 Pro health economics roles across Europe and internationally. The free job board shows around 30% of available listings. Pro Members see the full set immediately, including roles that never appear on general platforms.

Whether you are actively looking or keeping an eye on the market, the difference between searching a general platform and using a specialist source is not convenience. It is visibility. You cannot apply for roles you do not know exist.
