Director, Health Economics, Policy & Reimbursement

This role will build and drive Stryker Sage’s health economic competency, policy initiatives and re-imbursement strategies in order to deliver enhanced clinical and financial value to our customers across the continuum of care.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

This position will lead a team that works within the Stryker Sage business unit to perform the responsibilities in this job description.  Responsible for talent selection, engagement, development, performance, etc.

  • Lead our team of data analysts to align our data competencies and capabilities with best in class data centered around the value based purchasing HAC penalty program
  • Build a team structure to best support our goals as it relates to driving our health economic story with senior hospital leadership teams
  • Build our commercial (sales and marketing) health economic competency in order to empower our organization to deliver more clinical and financial value to our customers
  • Drive collaboration with our customer solutions team to ensure our health economic value story is being told across all channels and decision making functions
  • Aid in the development of enhancing our data capabilities in order to articulate a strong health economic story
  • Interface with KOL clinicians, payer organizations, medical societies and patient advocacy groups to garner resource and support for policy and support of reimbursement objectives.
  • Proactively define, lead and execute HEOR research and project plans and reimbursement initiatives to ensure reimbursement opportunities for Stryker Sage’s products to develop advanced knowledge of the clinical-economic impact of said products and to develop advanced sales and marketing tools.
  • In concert with marketing leaders, develop and define a clinical-health economics plan, with precise value messaging and tactics to support these strategies.
  • Provide input to clinical and marketing teams regarding opportunities to execute strategies that impact the economic value proposition for Stryker Sage’s products.
  • Collaborate with clinical affairs to conduct observational studies, cost effectiveness research, and meta-analyses to support policy and reimbursement initiatives
  • Advise senior leadership on the implications of government and private payor payment policies and legislative changes that may impact access to Stryker products.
  • Deliver and create clear and concise communications and presentations using approaches that highlight the most pertinent information for internal and external stakeholders and spur stakeholder actions.
  • Provide training for internal and external audiences.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior CMS personnel and ensure appropriate representation at significant meetings with CMS.
  • Work with customers and professional associations to develop advocacy campaigns that support coverage and payment strategies.
  • Work with payors, clinical champions, and professional societies to secure appropriate coverage, coding and payment policies for our products in the hospital and home care setting.
  • Establish and execute payer and provider focused communications regarding the value of Stryker products.
  • Serve as Stryker Sage’s liaison to Stryker Corporate’s Government Affairs and Health Policy and Reimbursement Group to ensure Sage’s products and clinical applications are well understood and positioned for policy change and reimbursement.
  • Develop and advocate policy positions on payment for technology in areas of payment policy of interest to Stryker.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in a scientific or analytics field- epidemiology preferred; business, finance or related field will be considered in conjunction with experience. Masters degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of work experience in health economics, public health policy, reimbursement or related field required.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the global health technology assessment and health care environment.
  • Epidemiology expertise in health economics, public health policy, and health services research preferred.
  • Familiarity and ability to model procedural and professional reimbursement with healthcare nomenclature including ICD-10-PCS, ICD-10-CM, MS-DRG, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Participation in and knowledge of Health Policy forums and processes for establishing payments, and/or valuation for Stryker products in a variety of health care markets
  • Strong people leadership skills to attract, engage and develop and highly skilled diverse team
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to execute and clearly deliver finished presentation.
  • Immaculate attention to detail, mastery of data analysis techniques and tools.
  • High degree of professionalism, maturity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with KOLs, payers, government organizations and administrators both verbally and in written documentation.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow for self and others.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

  • Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, etc.
