Director of Health Economics

Gatwick, UK.

This hybrid position is based in our beautiful Gatwick office, with the flexibility to work in the office 2-3 days a week and from home for the remaining days.

The position:

Novo Nordisk is looking for a dynamic Director of Health Economics to join our fantastic team in the UK.

If you are passionate about providing strategic oversight and management of the UK’s Health Technology Assessment (HTA) & National Access strategy, ensuring successful submissions to NICE and SMC, defining the relevant strategy and position, and creating bespoke economic evidence, this is the perfect role for you!

As a first-line manager, you will mentor and develop a high-performing team of 4 professionals while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Additionally you will:

  • Define and execute HTA strategy for Novo Nordisk’s UK portfolio, aligning with Global and European strategies.
  • Innovate solutions for HTA challenges, including Patient Access Schemes and Managed Entry Agreements.
  • Oversee development of HTA dossiers for UK payer agencies (NICE, SMC, AWMSG) and manage external collaborations.
  • Support UK HTA and market access activities, including horizon scanning and evidence generation.
  • Ensure alignment with commercial teams on positioning and setting of care.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team, oversee talent review processes, and set aligned goals.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, we imagine that you have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in Social/Health Sciences or Business, with Market Access experience; Master’s Degree and Health Economic qualification are advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in successful UK HTA submissions, economic model development, and evidence generation.
  • Previous direct managerial experience and a background in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent. Candidates with experience from institutions like NICE will also be considered.
  • Profound knowledge of UK reimbursement processes (NICE, SMC) and preferably some experience with patient access scheme/commercial deals.
  • Strong understanding of business dynamics, risk mitigation, and project management.

You should demonstrate effective time management and prioritization abilities. Additionally, we seek individuals who can challenge decisions and possess a strong strategic mindset.

About the department

The Health Economics department is made up of four health economic experts that each cover defined therapy areas within the portfolio. They work closely with the Regional and Global teams, as well as UK Commercial or New Product Planning teams to define and execute the relevant health economic and National access strategy.

This position is part of the Market Access Leadership team reporting to the Vice President of Market Access.  Together this team work to ensure patients can access medicines in the UK, where and when they need them.
