Frequently Asked Questions
Freelancers
All our freelancers are experienced health economists. They range from early mid-career professionals with over three years of consulting to senior experts with proven track records spanning more than 15 years in consulting and international pharma. All freelancers hold a master’s or PhD in health economics.
Firstly, we are health economists ourselves, so we understand the technical work freelancers do and can select a freelancer with the right expertise for your project.
Secondly, we personally interview each freelancer before introducing them to you, thoroughly reviewing their past projects to ensure they have the necessary skills and experience for your assignment.
Thirdly, having worked with many of these freelancers before, we have first-hand knowledge of their ability to deliver quality work. This process ensures you are matched with a freelancer who has the expertise needed for your project.
Yes, most likely. Our job board has a very international reach, with freelancers from across Europe and many other regions. They bring you expertise in working with local healthcare systems, reimbursement processes, and market access requirements. We’ll match you with professionals who have the country-specific expertise and language skills needed for your project.
Most likely. With our pool of freelancers, you have access to health economists with experience in a wide range of disease areas, such as oncology, vaccinations, and health technologies, including medical devices, diagnostics, and more. With the international reach of our job board, we can connect you with freelancers who have the specific expertise your project requires. Let us know what you need, and we’ll help you find the right match.
Hiring process and contract
It depends. Typically about a week after our initial discussion. The timeline also depends on how quickly you conduct interviews and select the freelancer. For very specialized expertise, finding a suitable freelancer might take longer.
You can hire a freelancer for as long as needed, depending on your project requirements. The duration is agreed upon separately for each freelance assignment and can range from as little as a few days for short-term projects to several months or more for ongoing engagements.
Yes, you can hire a freelancer on a part-time basis. We understand that some projects require only part-time contributions from health economists, and many freelancers also prefer part-time projects. The freelance assignment can be structured to align with the part-time needs of your project.
You start with a call with Jari Kempers to discuss your project and the expertise you need. Then, we sign a master service agreement, which establishes a framework for our cooperation but does not obligate you to hire freelancers from us. Next, you receive CVs and fees for 1–3 freelancers who match your requirements. You interview them and select the one you want to work with. Finally, we handle the contracts, and the freelancer begins working on your assignment.
Yes, you may terminate the freelance agreement if you no longer need the services or wish to discontinue. The termination period is outlined in the freelance agreement and typically ranges from a few days for small projects to up to a month for longer, ongoing engagements.
Yes, it is possible to transfer a freelancer to a regular employment contract; however, a transfer fee applies. This happens quite often when there is a good match, and both parties wish to transition to a more permanent cooperation.
The fees and invoicing
When we introduce freelancers to you, we provide their daily rates upfront to ensure full transparency. Rates depend on factors such as the freelancer’s experience, education, the specific expertise required for your project, and the duration of the assignment. During our initial discussion, we can provide an estimated fee range based on the type of freelancer your project needs, giving you the clarity to plan and budget effectively.
Most of our freelancers are paid on an hourly or daily rate basis, as health economics projects are often complex, making it challenging to estimate the time needed in advance. Fixed fees are typically used for well-defined, routine projects with clear tasks and deliverables.
Freelancers are independent contractors of EuropeanHealthEconomics.com and are not your employees. They are responsible for reporting and paying their taxes, social security contributions, pensions, and any other legal obligations in their country of residence.
A fair question. Freelancers report their work hours to you, and invoices are sent monthly. This allows you to monitor costs and avoid surprises.
To manage costs effectively, some clients agree with the freelancer on hour limits for each project phase (e.g., data collection, modelling, reporting) or for the entire project. If the limit is reached, progress is reviewed, and further work is discussed before approval. This approach ensures transparency, prevents open-ended costs, and helps you maintain control over expenses.
Freelance work is billed monthly. At the end of each month, the freelancer submits their timesheet to their manager for approval. The manager reviews and approves it within five working days. After approval, EuropeanHealthEconomics.com sends an invoice to your accounts payable team, with payment due within two weeks.
Confidentiality and IT
Freelancers sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with your organization before starting any assignment to ensure confidentiality during and after the project. See the next question for details about the use of computers and emails.
This is entirely your choice. Some companies require freelancers to work exclusively with their company’s computers, email, and systems for security or compliance reasons. Others prefer freelancers to use their own equipment and email.
Your next step
You can start with a call with Jari Kempers to discuss what you are looking for. If you already have details about your assignment, feel free to share them with us beforehand. After our call, we’ll identify the right freelancer for your project.
