Senior Director, Global Value & Access Strategy

The Head of Market Access, Cystic Fibrosis & Rare Disease role will assume global pricing & access portfolio responsibility for the CF inline and pipeline portfolio and act as the Market Access Lead for VX-522 (mRNA therapy).  In this capacity, the individual will be accountable for CF portfolio price & access optimization, ensuring launch readiness for pipeline assets and representing GVAS as a leader across various cross-Regional, cross-Functional teams. This individual will co-lead the Global Commercial Team for VX-522, as well as play a role on the CF Disease Strategy team.  This role will also be accountable for leadership of cross-portfolio capability building, especially for Rare disease, and thought leadership projects that advance knowledge of and readiness for the rapidly evolving Global payer environment.  This position reports directly into the VP of GVAS, will manage 1-2 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for shaping long-term CF revenue through development and governance of highly effective global pricing and market access strategies that guide Regional/Country execution across each phase of the product lifecycle
    • Responsible for Global payer strategic planning to support value and access optimization for CF in-line products, as well as CF pipeline assets in development
    • Lead development of market access strategies and core global P&R deliverables for the CF portfolio operating within the cross-functional, cross-regional commercialization process; support strategies with deep functional knowledge, in-depth market research, environmental data & analogs
    • Ensure price & access launch readiness for pipeline assets
    • Ensure robust strategic input into commercialization and development decisions and that the payer position is consistently represented to internal stakeholders
    • Proactively assess price/access performance, share best practices and partner with Regions/countries on local strategy; represent GVAS for CF topics at Global governance committee
    • Partner with HEOR and Global Marketing to ensure robust value proposition and integrated evidence plans are optimized to support global market access and reimbursement
  • Represent GVAS on CF Disease Strategy Team and co-lead the Global Commercial Team for VX-522
  • Lead cross-portfolio capability building focused on Rare disease and thought leadership projects that advance knowledge of and readiness for the rapidly evolving Global payer environment including consideration of innovative pricing & reimbursement mechanisms
  • Effectively leads cross-functionally, particularly across Market Access, HEOR, Real World Evidence, Government Affairs and Public Policy and US Market Access to ensure alignment around and delivery against access goals at each stage of the product lifecycle
  • Provides direct, “hands-on” development of strategic and tactical deliverables as required

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of direct biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience; 5+ years of supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Experience in comparable Global and/or rare disease role considered a plus; deep working knowledge of both US and ex-US healthcare systems required
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and make sound pricing and market access recommendations
  • Strong practical, quantitative and analytical skills combined with a sound understanding of how to successfully apply pricing & reimbursement / HEOR principles to support Vertex
  • General experience in commercialization and drug development
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead highly cross-functional teams within a matrix environment
  • Exhibits outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Vertex
  • Demonstrated relationship building at all levels of the organization and across geographies
  • Recognized as a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is flexible and reliable
  • Displays sound ethics and a fit for Vertex’s core values

Education:

  • BA/BS in field of study requiring quantitative analysis; advanced degree preferred

Flex Designation:Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 
1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
