Associate Director Market Access

Home-based, NJ, US.

Under general direction of the Director of Client Services, AoR Account Lead, and on behalf of clients, this hands-on role helps maintain and grow strong client relationships with assigned brands, contributes to product payer strategy development, develops and drives innovative managed market initiatives, works with internal teams to ensure the quality of deliverables and interactions with assigned clients, and ensures projects are completed on time and budget for assigned clients. Qualified candidate will have an attention to detail and be a proactive, critical thinker who is interested and able to work in a matrixed, team-oriented organization where all team members take responsibility for the quality and validity of the project. This role requires experience in the healthcare industry (client or consulting side). Depending on the candidate’s experience this role may be filled at an Assistant or Associate Director level, roles and responsibilities will adjust accordingly.


A typical workday for an AoR Client Services Assistant/Associate Director may include:

  • Working hand in hand with lead account strategist, content expert, and project manager to develop an account strategy and execute on tactics
  • Serving as a main client point of contact and helping to coordinate activities for assigned client accounts
  • Interfacing with client on status calls, developing client contact reports, and providing ongoing follow-up for deliverables and client meetings
  • Acting as lead on project management oversight, providing clear guidance on timelines, budgets, and project management requirements
  • Assisting account and being onsite as needed to effectively manage the account and associated projects
  • Working collaboratively with market research team, managed markets team, reimbursement team, creative team, and health outcomes/scientific team to produce client deliverables
  • Managing team with internal trafficking/legal/regulatory approval process to ensure all client comments and changes have been incorporated
  • Approving purchases, contracting, expenses, and may manage vendor relationships
  • Helping to allocate human and financial resources as appropriate to ensure objectives are accomplished
  • Implementing and delivering on various project types, including but not limited to:
  • Brand planning engagements
  • Value proposition creation (for client products to payers and providers)
  • Message testing/payer market research
  • Field force tools development and training (i.e., account manager tool kits)
  • Sales aids (both payer and provider)
  • Market segmentation analyses
  • Digital marketing/sales aids
  • Reimbursement assessments
  • Account strategy
  • Market research including ad boards, focus groups and MCN events
  • Contracting strategy
  • Commercialization strategy
  • Pricing
  • Coordinating with sales organization to develop new business opportunities in assigned accounts
  • Working with procurement teams to ensure contracting with Cencora is easy for key clients
  • Contributing to proposal writing, contracting, client capabilities presentations, and pricing
  • Overall responsibility for timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of all services
  • Identifying areas for risk

What your background should look like

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payer or brand marketing within the pharmaceutical industry or a pharmaceutical agency of record. BS/BA required, advanced degree preferred
  • Structured and well organized
  • Demonstrated success within the consulting environment or pharmaceutical industry
  • Significant knowledge base of managed markets, reimbursement, and/or health economics
  • Ability to interact with and influence clients to drive existing and future business
  • Excellent writing skills as well as the ability to communicate complex material in presentations and discussions in a straightforward manner
  • Strong presentation skills for both internal and client communications
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to develop sound, long-term client relationships and an ability to influence clients
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, successful consulting firm, which maintains high quality standards and demands excellence
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite tools
  • Willingness to travel to client sites (assume 15-25% of time)
