Global Pricing and Market Access Director – Sweden / UK


The Global Pricing and Market Access Director (GPMAD) is a Director level role within AstraZeneca. Reporting directly to the Group Director, Pricing, and Market Access- Biologics, the GPMAD is primarily responsible for the development and execution of the global pricing and market access strategy. Ensuring patient access to our medicines globally, with a particular focus on key global markets. The GPMAD must demonstrate outstanding critical thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and innovative ways to a diverse and increasingly evolving global payor landscape.

The GPMAD will have to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the brand, therapeutic area, and payor landscape, demonstrating this knowledge and experience to influence diverse opinions and build and execute a strategy that meets the needs of multiple internal and external partners. To do this he/she will develop close collaboration with cross-functional colleagues in the brand teams, Marketing, GMA, Regulatory, Government Affairs, MCs, as well as within the GMAP/OMAP function.

General accountabilities:

  • Develop strategic and compelling market access & price strategy aligned with brand strategy
  • Deliver clear, customer-focused Value Packs and other core global value materials (Pricing policy, Global Value Pack, Contracting Toolkit, Market Access Launch Strategy)
  • Collaborate with strategic and key markets to localize value materials, particularly the messaging in local pricing/reimbursement/HTA dossiers
  • Champion the payer perspective and drive it into brand strategy and implementation
  • As the need arises by the business, serve as the GMAP representative on the GPT, championing payer requirements and incorporating evidence needs within product development strategies
  • Develop payer communication plans and work with other brand team members and marketing companies as they integrate and deliver this through their communication activities

Minimum requirements – education and experience


  • Graduate / College degree in biomedical science, business, economics or political sciences/public policy (crucial)
  • Postgraduate qualification in biomedical science, business administration, finance, or economics
  • Payer, HTA, public health, or health policy experience (desirable)


  • Understanding the drivers of commercial success and the interplay between payer customers and HCP customers.
  • Understanding of the needs and expectations of national and regional payers, insurers, and commercial customers in our strategic markets
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of the development process for new molecules to influence development strategies in order to meet the requirements of payers
  • Knowledge of how different factors drive payer decision making at country level
  • In-depth specialized knowledge of global payer archetypes and the application of non-trial methods (e.g. health economic and real-world evidence) to support the development and market access at an international level
  • Strong understanding of how payer decision-makers influence development strategies
  • Pricing and access strategies, Forecasting


  • Experience in an MC in a commercial strategy function and/or customer-facing with payers, e.g. managed markets brand director, business development director, head of pricing/access
  • Track record of delivery in the payer area, or in a commercial function either in terms of strategy or in influencing payer decision making
  • Relevant drug development and/or commercialization experience within the pharmaceutical/medical industry
  • Experience working with clinicians, pharmacists and payers on evidence-based customer solutions, e.g. through working with local payers in EU or commercial customers in the US
  • Experience constructing payer value stories and incorporating these into TPPs and development programs
  • Experience in communicating and negotiating product listing/reimbursement agreements with national, regional, and or local payers.

  • Collaborates with technical skill experts and cross-functional teams to gain insight and dedication to operational plans
  • Ability to excel in a constantly evolving and dynamic landscape. Comfortable with change and ambiguity at times.
