The Regional Market Access (Senior) Manager is a Market Access and Reimbursement specialist who works with a cross-functional Gilead team on regional level. This role will be responsible for all therapeutic areas at Gilead with a focus on Oncology, as well as on HIV, Liver Disease and Covid-19.

The Regional Market Access Manager works with internal and external partners to support regional access to our innovative medicines and to develop solutions to improve the care of our patients along the product lifecycle. We attach great importance to interdisciplinary and cross-functional collaboration. With a clear focus on our patients and their needs and claims along their patient journey in Gilead’s (core) indications, we try to improve their care within the legal possibilities of the SGB V together with our partners on the side of statutory and private health insurers, physicians, and other stakeholders to design the best possible access to our products. We always strive to track down innovative trends, e. g. in managed care and digital health approaches that have the potential to optimize healthcare. We include them in our solutions and concepts insofar as they offer added value for patient care.

In addition, the Regional Market Access Manager at Gilead has primary responsibility for managing the regional stakeholders directly associated with reimbursement of our therapies. These include statutory and private health insurers, the associations of statutory health insurance physicians as well as professional medical associations and further players involved in patient care such as hospitals and pharmacists.

The Regional Market Access (Senior) Manager will be first point of contact to these public organizations and expands Gilead’s network to them.

Besides being a partner to internal and external stakeholders, the Regional Market Access (Senior) Manager owns the strong ability to analyze the regional Market Access environment and translates it into clear commercial strategies and tactics to improve patient care. Beyond that, the Regional Market Access (Senior) Manager will assure execution excellence of these strategies in close cooperation with the cross-functional Gilead team by being an integral part of these teams. This role is a key driver in enriching everyday business activities with Market Access intelligence and executive power and enhances business opportunities as well as Gilead team performance.

Essential job duties and functions

  • Establish and build a resilient regional network to identify inefficiencies as well as care needs from a patient’s perspective for high quality, necessary and economical patient relevant action areas for more efficient patient care, with a strong focus on oncology and CAR-T Cell therapy
  • Holistic understanding of the regional care situation, the care needs, and the potentials to improve market access conditions along the patient journey for Gilead’s products. Strategy development based on this, derivation of solution approaches as well as their implementation together with the cross-functional team and external partners.
  • Analysis of regional regulatory and legal framework conditions related to our product portfolio to identify and derive suitable recommendations to optimize patient care.
  • Early anticipation and consideration of current regulatory, healthcare policy and legal framework with a view to designing and conducting expert and background discussions to identify suitable solutions to secure reimbursement for Gilead products and improve the care for affected patients in line with the business unit’s strategy.
  • Comprehensive project management, concept development, contract drafting & negotiation with all stakeholders involved in patient care such as health insurance companies, medical professional associations but also digital health partners.
  • Support in establishing internal and external customer relationships for the further development of the regional market access strategy in close coordination with all departments involved in the implementation, especially with Contracting, the Market Access Therapeutic Area Leads, HEOR, Legal/Compliance, Medical Affairs, Governmental Affairs and Marketing.
  • Train and coach Gilead internal stakeholders in respect to Market Access intelligence; with a focus on Gilead´s field force teams to empower the teams in understanding and handling prescription hurdles.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Typically requires a Master or equivalent degree preferably in health economics, pharmacy, medicine, public health, public health policy or business-related disciplines.
  • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare organizations with a focus on Health Care Management, Health Innovation, Key Account Management and Health Care Contracting.
  • Must have in depth understanding of growing influence of public accounts and health care trends on pharmaceutical marketplace.
  • Familiarity with regional contracts, agreements and drug steering features on national and regional level required, as well as ability to analyze regional contracts/agreements/features in respect to their influence on Gilead´s business and development of strategies for win-win solutions based on these analyses.
  • Negotiation experience is a plus.
  • Key Account Management experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to travel extensively as dictated by business need; home office based plus attendance phases in Gilead office near Munich.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work with a high level of autonomy and independence.
  • Proven expertise in relationship building skills is required.
  • Good analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and understand complex issues and problems, and interpret information in a manner that provides appropriate recommendations to senior management and sales representatives.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word.
  • Experience in therapeutic areas named above, is desirable, but not a must.
  • Fluency in conversational and written English preferred.
  • Proven record of success in a similar role
