HEMA Manager

The Field Health Economics and Market Access “HEMA” Manager Spain is responsible for ensuring sufficient and necessary funding of Abiomed’s products, services, and solutions across the multiple regions. Their work supports patient access in creating the economic environment under which indicated patients that can benefit from Abiomed’s products, services and solutions have access to them with no economic barriers.

This position is for Spain and collaborates closely with the Assoc. Director Reimbursement and Market Access to implement the economic value proposition of Abiomed products across the Spanish healthcare systems. It is mainly a field-based position that partners with users of Abiomed’s technologies and supports them in their efforts to attract the necessary hospital and regional funding and enable patient access at the local level. The Field Health Economics and Market Access “HEMA” Manager Spain is additionally responsible for executing strategies that positively impact the applicable regional and national level healthcare environments (e.g., procedural coding applications, communication with the local Ministries of Health, submissions and support of hospital and regional Health Technology Assessment etc.). Development of clinical pathways at the local level can also be supported by this role.

The role finally includes stateful monitoring and reporting of national-level policies that may impact Abiomed’s technologies directly or indirectly – working in partnership with the remainder of the JnJ MedTech HEMA Italy organization.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with hospitals to evaluate reimbursement activities and overall financial environment relating to their Impella, LVAD or other heart supportive technologies.
  • Evaluate & monitor clinical guidance, local healthcare policies, patient access schemes and various Italian NHS data to identify business opportunities & support business development programs (working directly with current and potential customers)
  • Stateful monitoring of health policy development across the Italian regions especially in areas directly impacting Abiomed’s products, services, and solutions.
  • Work directly with regional- and national- level services to address hospital funding issues.
  • Local support of customers with hospital business cases, clinical coding, and negotiation processes between hospital trusts and local regions.
  • Develop effective communication materials that clearly explain reimbursement processes and options to customers and the Abiomed Internal team (as needed).
  • Support sales and clinical teams with reimbursement questions and issues in addition to training programs.
  • Partner and collaborate with Medical Office, Marketing as well as local Clinical and Sales teams and analyze claims data to create reports & business intelligence.
  • Inform design of economic analyses, economic modelling, value dossiers and other tools developed at the Global, EMEA and APAC levels.
  • In partnership with the Assoc. Director Reimbursement and Market Access EMEA, engage the Medical Office and partner on the design of clinical research, retrospective analyses, and economic data collection.
  • Representation of Abiomed in local fora (as needed).
  • Participation in scientific conferences, congresses, and trade fairs as well as European and Global Meetings (as needed).

  • Applied Skills and Technical Knowledge:  Leading knowledge of Critical Analysis and Health Economics, theory, techniques and how to apply them at country level.
  • Persuasive Communication:  Strong competence in negotiation skills and communication upstream and downstream. Leading level in written communication.
  • Funding Acumen:  Comprehensive knowledge of funding and reimbursement mechanisms in EMEA region. Applies expertise in developing appropriate market access strategy for the region.
  • Strategic Thinking:  Applies expert geographic knowledge to translate global value proposition into locally applied value messages. Provide input into evidence generation and strategic planning for the region.

    • Lead:  Clearly articulate HEMA evidence generation needs for the Business Unit

Qualifications 

Job Qualifications:

Excellent Knowledge of Spanish and English required.

  • M.D, Pharm.D, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in related field (Health Economics, Medical Statistics, Operational Research, Economics, Life Sciences) with 3-8 years of relevant work experience within the healthcare industry (with medical device experience preferred).
  • Postgraduate Qualification in Health Economics, Health Policy, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Operational Research, Data Science or Related Disciplines preferred.
  • Proven expertise working with hospital providers and regions across Italy.
  • In-depth Experience and Understanding of Italian hospital funding pathways and their future evolution.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% required within Italy. Some international travel within EU/Schengen may be required occasionally.
  • Proven expertise in developing local market access strategies to drive business.
  • Knowledge and experience of health economics, evidence, and dissemination.
  • Ability to understand business strategy; translate it into solutions that support the company’s business goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to communicate and relate well with key opinion leaders and clinical personnel required.
  • Track record of working effectively to shape the market and influence key decision makers.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and work independently with self-motivated attitude.
  • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability.
  • Able to manage multiple demands, with a systematic approach to prioritization.
  • Strong team player and communicator who works cross-functionally with experience of working successfully in matrix environments.
  • Sound MS Office knowledge.
