Field Market Access & Commissioning Manager

The Field Market Access & Commissioning Manager, UK & Ireland, is responsible for ensuring sufficient and necessary funding of JnJ Heart Recovery’s products, services and solutions across the four countries of the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland.

Their work supports the creation of the economic environment under which indicated patients that can benefit from Abiomed’s products, services and solutions have access to them. This position is for the United Kingdom and collaborates closely with the Director Health Economics and Market Access EMEA to implement the economic value proposition of JnJ Heart Recovery (formerly Abiomed) products across the NHS and private hospitals in the UK and Ireland. It is mainly a field-based position that partners with users of Abiomed’s technologies and supports them in their efforts to attract the necessary funding and get these technologies formally commissioned at the local level. The role also included stateful monitoring and reporting of national-level policies that may impact Abiomed’s technologies directly or indirectly. The Field Market Access & Commissioning Manager is also responsible for executing strategies that positively impact the national level (e.g. OPCS-4 coding applications, communication with the Department of Health, submissions and support of Health Technology Assessment etc.). Development of clinical pathways at the local level can also be supported by the Field Market Access & Commissioning Manager. Finally the Field Market Access & Commissioning Manager is the main contact point for procurement organizations such as the NHS Supply Chain for JnJ Heart Recovery.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with hospitals to evaluate reimbursement activities and overall financial environment relating to their Impella, LVAD or other heart supportive technologies
  • Evaluate & monitor clinical guidance, commissioning policies, patient access schemes and various NHS data to identify business opportunities & support business development programs (working directly with current and potential customers)
  • Stateful monitoring of health policy development across the United Kingdom especially in areas directly impacting Abiomed’s products, services and solutions
  • Work directly with local- and national- level services to address hospital funding issues
  • Local support of customers with hospital business cases, clinical coding, commissioning cycles and negotiation process between hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups
  • Develop effective communication materials that clearly explain reimbursement processes and options to customers and the Abiomed Internal team (as needed)
  • Support sales and clinical teams with reimbursement questions and issues in addition to training programs
  • Partner and collaborate with Medical Office, Marketing as well as local Clinical and Sales teams and analyze claims data data to create reports & business intelligence
  • Inform design of economic analyses, economic modelling, value dossiers and other tools developed at the EMEA level
  • Maintain the relationship with NHS Supply Chain and other potential centralized procurement organizations in the UK & Ireland
  • In partnership with the Director HEMA EMEA, engage the Medical Office and partner on the design of clinical research, retrospective analyses and economic data collection
  • Representation of JnJ Heart Recovery/Abiomed in local fora (as needed)
  • Participation in scientific conferences, congresses, and trade fairs as well as European and Global Meetings (an needed)

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in related field with 3-5 years of relevant work experience within the healthcare industry (with medical device experience preferred)
  • Proven expertise working with providers and payers across the UK
  • In-depth Experience and Understanding of Payment by Results and its future evolution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills required
  • Ability to communicate and relate well with key opinion leaders and clinical personnel required
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking skills and commercial attitude
  • Ability to travel up to 40% required
  • Excellent customer orientation with strong communication & organizational skills required
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with self-motivated attitude
  • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability
  • Strong team player and communicator who work cross-functionally
  • Demonstrated excellence of design thinking and keen observational skills
  • Willing to learn and explore new approaches
  • Sound MS Office knowledge
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and/or Master’s Degree in Health Economics, Health Policy, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Operational Research, Data Science or Related Disciplines preferred
  • Experience in developing health economics models and arguments preferred
  • Experience working in a medical device or regulated industry preferred
