Associate Director, U.S. Field HEOR

Vertex currently operates at the forefront of rare disease scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). In addition to clinical development programs in CF, Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research and development programs focused on addressing the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including hemoglobinopathies, Acute & chronic pain, Type 1 diabetes, APOL-1 Mediated Kidney Disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, , and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD).

In consideration of our expanding pipeline and an increasingly complex market access environment, Vertex is expanding its field-based US Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team.

The Field HEOR Regional Associate Directors will be working in close collaboration with other field teams including Market Access, State Government Affairs, and Medical Science Liaisons calling on formulary decision-making organizations (i.e., payers and large health systems) and state & federal policymakers to provide a seamless customer experience in exchanging impactful and timely HEOR value communication. They also generate key customer insights that shape our market access and HEOR strategies & tactics. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead external HEOR communications directly with formulary decision-makers, state & federal policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders to articulate the value of Vertex medicines across all disease areas
  • Generate key customer insights (e.g. potential evidence gaps, and evolving US market access trends) and disseminate to the HQ-based team to inform the HEOR evidence generation and communication strategy
  • Identify and liaise on opportunities for collaborative HEOR research with payers, integrated delivery networks and large health systems
  • Demonstrate a high level of business acumen, leadership & customer focus and retain the ability to perform independently with minimal supervision
  • Partner with HQ-based HEOR team to provide input & guidance into US payer-related strategies and tactics including development of field resources (e.g., slide presentations, budget-impact models, etc.)
  • Contribute to cultivating a strong, collaborative, and inclusive team culture within both HEOR and the broader cross-functional matrix teams

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and work effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and communication skills
  • Expertise in US market access environment across commercial and government payers
  • Refined proficiency in outcomes research, economic evaluation of healthcare, HEOR study/model methodology, statistics, data reporting and real-world data/evidence
  • Experience and knowledge in rare disease conditions preferred
  • Ability to appropriately access and handle business information in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and / or Vertex policies
  • Ability to travel (including overnight trips) at least 50% of the time

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced Graduate degree (Masters and above) in HEOR or related disciplines (e.g., MPH) is required
  • Clinical degree (e.g., PharmD, MD) is preferred
  • At least 5 years of equivalent experience, in the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical industry, engaging with US payer accounts (national, regional, state Medicaid)

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 
1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
