  • Part time (0.30 FTE-11.25 hours ) fixed term until May 2026 at Camperdown (hybrid option also available).
  • Great opportunity for a Health Economist to contribute to economic evaluations for cancer prevention. 
  • Base Salary $86,584- $122,830 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation, range dependent on qualifications and experience.

About the opportunity:

We have a great opportunity for an early career Health Economist to contribute an exciting economic evaluation research project, MOHMQuit, a program supporting pregnant women to quit smoking. The opportunity is for either a Research Associate (level A) or a Research Fellow(level B) depending on qualifications and experience supporting Dr Alison Pearce and the team.

This position will suit a PhD candidate (or others requiring flexibility) as we support flexible working arrangements within this project.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct cost effectiveness analyses of health service programs, including developing or adapting cost effectiveness models
  • obtain, critically appraise, and refine data from disparate sources (including grey literature) and studies as inputs to the economic modelling
  • assemble research data, drawing insights and undertaking analyses under the guidance of senior academics
  • prepare reports and contribute to conference presentations and the writing of peer-reviewed journal articles based on the results of research
  • contribute to obtaining competitive funding for future research activities
  • work in a multidisciplinary research team
  • attendance at meetings and membership of relevant committees
  • involvement in professional activities including attendance at conferences and seminars (subject to availability of funds).
  • administrative functions connected with the research
  • occasional contributions to the health economics teaching program within the field of the staff member’s research.

About you

For Research Associate Level A:

  • have a Masters in Health Economics, Public Health, Economics, Statistics, Epidemiology or Biostatistics or a field relevant to the work
  • an understanding of the design and conduct of economic evaluations (e.g. cost-effectiveness analysis, decision modelling)
  • demonstrated quantitative skills, such as the use of Excel or statistical packages such as STATA, SAS or R
  • Understanding of the process for the design and conduct of systematic reviews
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including some evidence of academic writing
  • ability to work in a team and operate autonomously without close guidance.

In addition For Research Fellow Level B:

  • have a PhD in Health Economics, Public Health, Economics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a field relevant to the work
  • demonstrated experience in designing and conducting economic evaluations (e.g. cost-effectiveness analysis, decision modelling)
  • demonstrated quantitative skills, including health economic modelling, using TreeAge, Excel, or statistical packages such as STATA, SAS or R
  • Experience in the design and conduct of systematic reviews
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including a record of research and publications in their field
  • a strong track record of effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams with industry and professional institutions, health partners, and stakeholders
