Head of Market Access, Heath Care Affairs & Patient Engagement

Head of Market Access, Health Care Affairs & Patient Engagement is responsible for  the development of market access strategy, its realisation, maintaining and enlargement of market access of new innovative Boehringer Ingelheim medicines/products, new line extensions and new indications of existing products to create and maintain access of these products for the  health care consumer in OPU Operating Unit), South Africa. 

Reporting: Solid line reporting to General Manager.

Dotted line: Head of Market Access, IMETA (India, Middle East, Turkey, Africa).

Tasks & responsibilities 

Develop Market Access, Health Care Affairs & Patient Engagement plans and ensure its execution to address local HC challenges; including Health Economics and HC Affairs strategies, patient support programs, in alignment with local, regional (IMETA) and global priorities. Coordinate health economic studies with IMETA HEOR manager and local experts

Develop a pro-active pricing and reimbursement strategies; Gain and maintain national access for our new and existing products by submitting pricing, reimbursement and health economics dossier to authorities and private funders to accelerate access and support market penetration in line with ROPU/ Global pricing strategy .Provide accurate pricing, reimbursement & enlisting information to respective stakeholders in OPU and ROPU META. Execute pricing, reimbursement and enlisting strategic guidance coming from IMETA; secure price approvals at IMETA level

Leading and developing key Accounts strategies, ensure execution by Mapping key stakeholders;at key accounts/ governmental/ reimbursement bodies/private funders/3rd parties to secure and accelerate access to BI products. Build and maintain a national network with high level customers: scientific committees, hospital directors, decision makers,external experts, health authorities  and administrative staff.

In addition, the individual is also responsible for building and maintaining internal relationships i.e. cross functional teams  and relationships with relevant external partners in health care and representatives of government, politics and patients’ associations (if any) , needed for building strategy and execution, while adhering to (BI) best practice principles and standard operational procedures (SOPs).

Monitor the healthcare and political environment and competitive landscape to capture events impacting market access of the medicines and advise Head of Market Access IMETA on actions to address national, regional and local threats and opportunities

Ensure the development of KAM strategies in line with local OPU priorities to ensure enlisting and support development of KAM capabilities

Requirements 

  • A minimum of 5 – 7 years work experience in multinational pharmaceutical or related company within the relevant region.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry among others in health economics, outcome research, pricing, reimbursement, planning/development/maintenance of relationships.
  • Experience in clinical research, interaction between medical/marketing/sales (e.g. brand team experience), development and performance of scientific research projects, and interaction with medical external experts and stakeholders within health care and government would be an asset. 
  • Results orientation/Conflict Resolution/Negotiation Skills/ Presentation Skills/Team working/Time Management/Creativity and Critical Thinking/ Working Under Pressure/ Problem Solving and Decision Making/Project Management/Business Administration
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree (e.g. MBA, MSc) assets
